Фишка дня: DNA art_

dnamain.jpgHere's an interesting take on commissioning portraits, which, according to a recent article I read, is on the rise again (among those who have the desire and the money to do that kind of thing). DNA11 can take a sample of your DNA (basically you send them a vial of your saliva) and their labs create an electronic snapshot of your DNA and print them on canvas to create an artwork of...well, you. The resulting DNA portrait is an abstract geometric composition that looks curiously digital. You can custom order your portrait from a choice of different sizes and color schemes.

For those of you who are thinking about the security implications of submitting your DNA...well, they have that covered in their FAQs. And how would you really know that the resulting artwork is your particular DNA interpretation? I don't think you can know for sure - I mean you'd have to just trust them. I do find many scientific imagery beautiful, but I don't find the DNA portraits all that visually compelling enough to want to hang one on my wall, but it would make an interesting conversation piece or a gift for that person who has everything.
